Weinmayr’s latest publication is part of a series of interventions around the (temporary?) disappearance of the English art collective Art in Ruins from the art world.
Art in Ruins came to international prominence in the 1980’s and 1990’s, provocatively addressing capitalism, discrimination and the art world. After a very visible political and artistic phase of activity, they became quiet. „For me, this silence makes Art in Ruins’ critique not only more powerful but open to speculation“ says Weinmayr. Did they run out of ideas, move to other territories or simply withdraw in disgust? Using actual dialogue lines from interviews with art professionals who knew Art in Ruins Eva Weinmayr constructs a play as an anti-documentary or anti-biography.
This book launch is the first in the UK following others at Zacheta National Art Gallery Warsaw, KW Institute for Contemporary Art Berlin and MoMA PS1 Queens
The project is funded by the Arts Council England and Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, University of the Arts London
